About 120 Christians from different churches, gathered for prayers in Parliament Square on Thursday evening. Organised by Christians in Government - to take place on the original date chosen for Britain to leave the EU - there were prayers for Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales, England, London and all those who are disadvantaged.

Fr Dominic Robinson SJ, parish priest at Farm Street Church, Mayfair, who attended the event, told ICN: "It was really important to gather with other Christians this evening and pray together for our country, and our politicians at this uncertain time."

Churches Together in Britain and Ireland (CTBI) and Churches Together in Westminster have called all member churches and associated bodies to join together in a time of dedicated prayer for politicians and political institutions in United Kingdom.

Archbishop Angaelos, Coptic Archbishop of London and Moderator of the CTBI said: "this is a time at which many feel anger and anxiety over the future, and so we need to pray that those who have the heavy burden of political leadership in our country find a unity that brings our communities together in the task of serving the common good. We hope and pray that every person of faith will join us in prayer across our nation, and beyond."

Many prayer events will be taking place across the UK over the next few days.
