Requiem Mass for Kathleen Griffin + VIDEO

  • JudyAnn Masters

A Requiem Mass for Kathleen Griffin - much-loved broadcaster, journalist and author - one of the founding members of Catholic Voices, took place on Monday, 1 October, at the Holy Apostles church in Pimlico, London. The celebrants were Canon Pat Browne, Canon Robert Plourde, Fr Stephan Wang, Fr Paul Keane, Fr Robert McCabe and Fr David Sullivan. Tim Salmon read the eulogy written by Ian Peacock, founding co-member with Kathleen of Hummingbird Audio Landscaping.

Kathleen was a long time active parishioner at Holy Apostles Church. The service was well attended with additional representation from BBC Radio, Opus Dei, Hastings University, Catholic Voices, family and friends from abroad.

Yasmin Baleno Ile sang solo a beautiful rendition of Lord I Come to You. At the finish of the Mass, a recording, clips from Kathleen doing radio interviews, was played. The church was in complete silent as we listened to Kathleen's voice for the last time.

All in all, it was a beautiful, memorable Requiem Mass.

Afterwards, everyone proceeded to the church hall for a light lunch reception. Many people were reconnecting after years of absence apart, with their favourite stories of Kathleen. A slide show of Kathleen through her childhood years to her various affiliations, played on during the reception, rekindling memories for many.

The family and a handful of close friends escorted her to the crematorium for a poignant, heartfelt final good-bye. May she rest in eternal peace.
