CAPS delegates in AIDS 2018 planning meeting

UK-based 'Catholics for AIDS Prevention & Support' (CAPS) will make a series of presentations to mark the 22nd International AIDS Conference, held this week in Amsterdam.

On Friday, 13th July, CAPS hosted 'Positive Faith: Christianity & HIV in the UK' at St Annes Anglican Church, in Soho, one of a series of public events in London as part of the AIDS Histories & Cultures Festival 2018 convened by The Raphael Samuel History Centre (Birkbeck University), to coincide with AIDS 2018. Chaired by Prof Jim McManus, speakers from Cambridge University, St Marys University and CAPS, explored the historical and current contribution of the Christian Churches in response to HIV in the UK, and the impact of an HIV diagnosis on faith and spirituality as a lived experience.

This weekend, six CAPS delegates will be in Amsterdam to present 'Positive Faith' at the World Council of Churches 'Faith Building Bridges' & the Catholic HIV/AIDS Network, affiliated Conferences, and deliver a workshop in the 'Global Village Faith Zone' at the main AIDS 2018 Conference this week. CAPS delegates will stay with the Sant Egidio Community, The Salesians and the Servants of the Holy Spirit Sisters, for the week. Among others, from the UK, The Duke of Sussex Prince Harry, will also attend AIDS 2018.
