Plymouth: Diocese opens Shrine Church, encourages Blessed Sacrament processions

Christ the King Church

Christ the King Church

In a Pastoral Letter to the Diocese of Plymouth this weekend, for the Feast of Corpus Christi, Bishop Mark O'Toole has asked every parish to have a public procession of the Blessed Sacrament in September, on the same weekend (7th-9th Sept) that 10,000 Catholics will be gathering in Liverpool for the National Eucharistic Congress, titled 'Adoremus' (Let us adore).

He announced that he has designated Christ the King Church, in the centre of Plymouth, as a Shrine of the Blessed Sacrament, with Eucharistic Exposition and Adoration taking place for many hours, day and night, during the week.

In the letter, Bishop Mark, indicates that the Eucharist is at the heart of the renewal of faith within the Church and in reaching out to others to witness to Jesus Christ:

"When we celebrate Mass, or spend time before the Blessed Sacrament, we bring to the Lord in our prayer, all those who do not know Him. We want to fall in love with Him anew, so that we will be more ardent proclaimers of His love to others."

Many thanks.
