St Chads' Cathedral will be lit up in red for a week in honour of the world's persecuted Christians and for all who suffer for their peaceful beliefs. St Chad's has been floodlit red since Friday 17 November to stand up for faith and freedom. Prayers are being offered for those under persecution.

The Cathedral joins many other landmarks and places of worship around the world that are being lit up red tonight #RedWednesday.

Canon Gerry Breen, Dean of St Chad's Cathedral said: "The red lighting serves to remind us that persecuted Christians should never be forgotten. Along with other Christians, we stand in faith and freedom to shine a light on the discrimination and violence faced by millions of Christians around the world today - the most oppressed of all faith groups in the world. They are always in our prayers and never forgotten!"

More #Red Wednesday reports on ICN tomorrow.
