Caritas Anchor House in east London has beaten hundreds of projects nationwide to be shortlisted in the latest Stoves Community Kitchens campaign, and is in the running to win up to £5,000 worth of kitchen appliances. The deadline for voting has been extended to 10 September - so if you haven't voted yet - you still have time.
First launched in 2015, Community Kitchens, which is run by British cooking brand Stoves, seeks to enrich projects in the local community by offering a total of £20,000 in appliances to help them transform their kitchen facilities.
Caritas Anchor House, a Catholic charity and life skills centre for homeless adults, is in the final shortlist of just ten charities. Supporting more than 250 adults in the London Borough of Newham, success in the competition would support Caritas Anchor House’s Home and Hope Appeal, by expanding their facilities to include a training kitchen to offer healthy eating and cooking classes, and offer the chance for users to gain catering qualifications.
Jonathan Casley, Commercial Director of Stoves’ parent company, Glen Dimplex Home Appliances, said: “We fully believe that the heart of the home - and the community - is the kitchen, and we are therefore always keen to support charities and projects who are putting something back into their communities. We urge local people to get behind Caritas Anchor House to help them win these appliances and continue their great work.”
Linda Maytum-Wilson, Acting Chief Executive of Caritas Anchor House, said: “Caritas Anchor House is committed to promoting healthy living, and our training kitchen will offer opportunities to improve knowledge and skills to choose and prepare healthy meals, as well as gain catering qualifications. Working with Stoves would help strengthen the community services we offer, and we’re delighted to have been shortlisted.”
The vote is open from Monday 10th July to Sunday 10 September 2017. Bronze, silver and gold packages worth between £2,000 and £5,000 will then be awarded to winning projects.
