World Humanitarian Day

Around the world, conflict and violence are exacting massive tolls on people’s lives. Ordinary people are increasingly caught up in conflicts that are not of their own making. In war zones, children must hide from bombing beneath their beds, rather than learning at their desks. Families are forced to flee their towns, rather than build their homes, livelihoods and communities.
On World Humanitarian Day, marked on Saturday, 19 August, a new campaign was launched expressing solidarity with people trapped in conflict, reaffirming that civilians are #NotATarget and demanding that world leaders take action to protect them.
Join the UN in advocating for the protection of civilians, including aid and health workers, and all those affected by conflict.
