Petition: Condemn claim God has given Trump authority to go to war

The ecumenical campaign group Faithful America has issued a petition protesting about a church leader claiming that President Trump has the God-given authority to go to war.

Robert Jeffress, pastor of a Southern Baptist megachurch and one of Trump's closest allies on the religious right, who preached on the morning of President Trump's inauguration, has now announced: "God has given Trump authority to take out Kim Jong-Un."

During the campaign season, some key Southern Baptist leaders were sharply critical of Trump, but now they've come under pressure and fallen silent.

The petition appeals: "now that Jeffress is helping Trump beat the drums of nuclear war, Southern Baptist leaders must break their silence and condemn his statement for what it is: heresy."
