Salford: Mass for Migrants
Hundreds of Catholics are expected to gather for a special Mass for Migrants, which will be celebrated next week at Salford Cathedral.
The Diocese of Salford and its sister charity Caritas Salford is holding is first Migrants' Mass to recognise the contribution of Migrant Workers and their families to UK society.
This Mass is already an important feature of the London Church Calendar and it is hoped that this will be the first of an annual celebration for the Diocese of Salford.
The congregation will be made up of parishioners of different ethnicities from around the diocese. The event provides an opportunity to celebrate the rich diversity in our communities and acknowledge the important role of Migrants to our society.
The Mass is supported by Rt Rev John Arnold, Bishop of Salford, who said: 'The Diocese of Salford and the wider community have greatly benefited from Migration, not just in recent years but throughout the history of migration to Greater Manchester and Lancashire.
Our parishes have a wonderful sense of community and diversity and this Mass is an opportunity to celebrate and recognise the contribution of those who have chosen to settle and make the Diocese of Salford their home.
I look forward to the Migrants Mass playing an important role in our Church Calendar for many years to come. '
The event takes place on 1st May at 11.30am St John's Cathedral, Salford. All are welcome to join the celebration.
