Funeral of Elizabeth Wang
Elizabeth Wang was laid to rest in Harpenden on 22 September after a Requiem Mass in her home parish of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. There were a total of nineteen celebrants, with her son, Fr Stephen Wang, being the main celebrant. He is currently Senior University Chaplain for the Archdiocese of Westminster. Fr Stephen's homily recalled many special family moments, including the four lively grandchildren in attendance the day she died, filling the house with love and joy.
Kin Wang, Elizabeth's husband, and Mary Figg, her daughter, warmly greeted everyone before the service. Chris Wang, her second son, also greeted people and did the first reading. Many friends and family contributed in numerous ways and thanked by Kin Wang and Fr Stephen.
The service was very well attended, overflowing church capacity. It was a moving and beautiful mass accompanied by their accomplished parish choir.
After mass the entire attendees were invited graveside and then to a reception afterwards. A tone of quiet joy and respect marked the occasion, with a desire to welcome all--much like the life led by Elizabeth Wang. She was greatly loved and a renowned artist. Some viewed her as a gifted Catholic mystic.
