The Cardinal Hume Centre in Westminster, provides a unique and invaluable service to out of work people in London through their Employment Services. Last year the staff and volunteer team helped 42 people into work, and not just any job, but work they really wanted and will sustain. The team provide one-to-one coaching support, build relationships with companies to help clients get their foot in the door and provide in-work support.
Volunteers man the very busy, weekly job club and support people with job seeking tasks such as CV writing, online job searching and applications.
One client says: "I never thought I would be independent and working. I have seen a change in myself. The Centre helped me so much.
"The main thing I want people to know is how much more confident I am now, in terms of work but also generally day to day. That wouldn't have happened if it wasn't for the staff at the Cardinal Hume Centre. Before I had no idea what I wanted to do, but now I know where I want to go in the future."
There are lots of other volunteer roles at the centre.
