Catholic theatre company wins award for play about human trafficking

Ten Ten, the Catholic professional theatre company, has won the Award for Best Stage or Film Production dealing with Modern Slavery for the play, 'This Is My Body'.

The play, written by Ten Ten's Artistic Director Martin O'Brien, is a one-woman piece which tells the powerful story of a woman from Romania (played by Agata Jarosz) who has been rescued from trafficking and is on the road to rehabilitation in a safe house run by a religious sister. It was staged in parishes and Catholic Sixth Form colleges throughout 2015, as well as at The St James Theatre in Central London.

Other winners included journalists from Channel 4, The Guardian and BBC Radio 4. Presenting the award to Ten Ten, the Home Secretary Theresa May said: "The journalists and campaigners recognised through these awards have given a voice to the victims of this despicable crime and through their work have helped to raise awareness about this important issue."

Ten Ten plan to stage a theatre tour of the production in 2016, and have also released a 26-minute documentary film for schools called "Bakhita's Prayer" which follows the journey of Sixth Form students in a Catholic Sixth Form college who learn about modern slavery.
