London: Christmas music group lifts spirits at Euston Station
There was singing and dancing at Euston Station in London on Sunday afternoon, when a group of professional and amateur musicians and singers, invited by Virgin Trains, played for the crowds, to raise funds for New Ways, a small charity which supports health, education and agricultural projects in Turkana, north west Kenya.
Families stopped for selfies, some joined in, and many passengers - especially people whose trains were delayed - said music in the crowded station really lifted their spirits.
The award-winning harpist Geraldine McMahon played some solo pieces and accompanied the singers, together with Salesian Fr Martin, seminarian Rajiv Michael, Gerry and James Teague on guitars, violinist Tom and his two sisters, Elizabeth Norris who sings with the Bach Choi , Robert Sumerling, Naomi Hamilton CJ, Pat and Charmaine, Judy, Hana, Pat Gaffney, Marion Hill, Stuart, Mel, Mary Kenefick, Mary Kenefick, Julia Forsythe, Anne Dixon, Rebekah O'Keeffe, Joy Wanless and Aisling, a recently-returned Bosco Volunteer.
New Ways, run entirely by volunteers, supports the work of the St Paul's Missionary community in Turkana, north west Kenya. The region has been badly affected by drought and has also seen waves of migration caused by water and food shortages and conflicts in neighbouring Ethiopia, Sudan and Uganda.
