The body of Fr John Ssenyondo, a Comboni missionary of Ugandan nationality, was found in a mass grave near the town of Chilapa, along with other dead bodies, the Mexican diocese of Chilpancingo-Chilapa report. The identification of Father John Ssenyondo was made possible through the investigation of dental records. The identity of the other bodies founds in the grave has not been released yet.

The priest disappeared on 30 April this year. Fr Ssenyondo's body was found on 29 October, but the coroner's report was not released until 13 November.

Father John Ssenyondo was born in Masaka, Uganda, and belonged to the Congregation of the Comboni Missionaries of the Heart of Jesus. He was reported missing after having celebrated a wedding in the community of Santa Cruz, Chilapa.

The Ugandan government is working to bring home the remains of Fr John. Foreign Affairs State Minister, Henry Okello Oryem said: “government is giving its all to have Fr Ssenyondo remains returned and interred in Uganda.”

Oryem said his ministry is liaising with the Ugandan consulate in Mexico and family members during this difficult time.
