Thailand: Child from Fr Ray's home graduates with law degree

A young woman who grew up children's homes in Thailand, is on her way to becoming a barrister, after she was awarded a law degree last week. Congratulations to Ann from the Father Ray Foundation Children's Home in Pattaya, sponsored by the Thai Children's Trust, who has graduated with a Bachelors degree from the Faculty of Law at Phranakhon Rajabhat University.

Ann arrived at the Father Ray Children's Home in May 2002, with her older sister. She was just 12 and they had both previously lived in government institutions in Bangkok and Chonburi. Ann was sent to a nearby government school, but she soon proved that she was just a bit too smart and was transferred to one of the better schools in the Pattaya area.

Ann spent one year in Australia, living with a local family, attending school and improving her English skills. On returning to Thailand she completed her school studies before enrolling at the Faculty of Law at Phranakhon Rajabhat University.

Her grades in her final year at university averaged 3.70-3.83 out of a possible 4.00, and as she worked so hard she successfully graduated with a Bachelor of Law degree. Upon completing her studies at university Ann is now employed by a law company in Bangkok and working towards getting her license to practise as a barrister.

Ann is the second female resident of Father Ray's Home to graduate from university, her elder sister was the first.

The Thai Children's Trust cares for more than 4,000 children at its projects in Thailand, and encourages each child to develop their full potential. For more information about the work of the Trust and to support their work, please visit: www.thaichildrenstrust.org.uk/
