Cardinal Vaughan win QPR Schools League second year running
For the second year in a row, the 1XI football team from The Cardinal Vaughan Memorial School in Kensington have beaten off tough competition to win the QPR Schools League.
Yesterday’s finals at QPR’s training ground in Harlington offered a dazzling display of amateur football, the high level of play a real testament to all involved. Both the Vaughan’s 1XI and 2XI were competing for their respective titles, following an unremitting season of midweek and Saturday fixtures.
After extremely tight successes at Twickenham’s Semi-Finals, the Vaughan’s 2XI team drew 1-1 in their Plate Final with Burlington Danes before losing out on penalties. Fortunately the 1XI had better luck on the day and followed an 8-1 win against Chelsea Academy in the Semi-Finals with a 3-1 win against QPR College Academy in the Finals – the Vaughan once again taking the title as QPR Schools League champions.
The QPR Schools League was set up in 2012 for secondary school football teams across Kensington, Chelsea, Hammersmith and Fulham. Over 500 boys participate in the League through the season.
Vaughan PE teacher and team manager, Lee Regan, said: “This is an outstanding achievement from the Senior Football players at The Vaughan, to reach respective finals two years in a row and for the 1XI to retain the trophy is testament to their unbelievable efforts and teamwork. My congratulations to the players, it has been a pleasure working with them throughout the year.”
