London: 'Morality and God: What's the Connection?' conference at Heythrop

'Morality and God: What's the Connection?', is the title of the annual conference of The Centre for Philosophy of Religion at Heythrop College, University of London, on Saturday, 14 June.

There is a great line-up of speakers. Dr Fiona Ellis will start the proceedings with a paper called 'Moral realism and God', but don't be deceived by the rather dry title. She's approaching the issue via a discussion of Netzsche, Levinas, and nihilism.

Professor John Cottingham will follow with a discussion of morality and the transcendent, and there will be an interesting question of the two positions relate.

In the afternoon Professor Robert Stern (Sheffield) will talk about the Danish philosopher and theologian Løgstrup and his 'ethical demand', and there'll be connections with what has been said previouly about Levinas.

Finally, and all the way from Canada, Professor John Schellenberg will take up the perspective of the atheist, asking whether he might be provided with a reason to take up a form of religious faith.

It promises to be a fascinating day, and the fees have been reduced to celebrate our success in securing a grant from John Templeton/Fordham University for next year.

The standard fee is now £10, and students/concessions (including over 65) come for free. Do come along for the day. You'll get a sense of how the current debate is moving and there'll be a chance to contribute to it in discussion.

EMAIL REGISTRATION WITH FEES ON DAY.

To register please send your full name in an email to: f.ellis@heythrop.ac.uk with 14 June as header, indicating your fees category.
