Glasgow: Lentfest


The Archdiocese of Glasgow Arts Project (AGAP) helps people explore, express and celebrate faith all the year round through the arts. This year's LENTfest has an exhibition or paintings by John Cairney; music from singer-songwriter Martin Jones; an evening of drama and storytelling on Firecloud Friday; inspirational music from the movies; folk music sessions; a chance to sing Vespers for the Vigil of the Feast of St Patrick and more...

The following events are scheduled for the coming weeks:

A Glasgow Calvary - by John Cairney
New paintings of The Stations of the Cross reimagined for our own time
Exhibition Open Daily - 5 March - 21 April 2014
Monday - Friday 9am until 4.30pm and Saturday and Sunday 9am until 5pm at AGAP Gallery Space, St Patrick's Church, Anderston. Please be respectful of times of services. Daily Mass at 10am (Sat Vigil 6pm) and confessions 9.45 am. The Church will be closed on Saturday, 19 April 2014.

Martin Jones and Friends
Thursday, 13 March 2014 at 7.30pm
St Michael's Church Hall, Gallowgate, Parkhead.
One of the most important emerging singer-songwriters on the circuit, fresh from the Danny Kyle Open Stage at Celtic Connections. Join him, Willie Sinclair and others for an evening of music and song. You will not be disappointed! Tickets £5. Tea/coffee and soft drinks available on the night.

Firecloud Friday at the Hope Kitchen
Friday, 14 March 2014 6.30pm - 11pm
Our Holy Redeemer's Church Hall, Clydebank. Our first ever Fire Cloud Friday! Relaxed opportunities for faith stories, music, food and fin in our purpose created "Hope Kitchen". St Joseph's Church, Milngavie (close to Milngavie railway station and car parks). Music from the Motion Picture The Mission and other inspirational music from the movies. Tickets £7/£5 concessions.

Lentfest Folk Sessions
Saturday, 15 March at 7.30 pm - St Helen's Church Hall, Shawlands, Glasgow Thursday, 27 March at 7.30 pm - St Peter's Church Hall, Partick, Glasgow The Morgan Lee Band, Martin Jones, Fiona Cuthill & Stevie Lawrence, Joe Murray, Heelster Gowdie. Tickets £7 /£5 concessions. Book Both sessions for £10 / £8 concessions.

Vespers of St Patrick
St Peter's Church, Hyndland Street, Partick Saturday, 15 March - 10 for 10.30 - 530pm (with lunch and tea breaks) Sunday, 16 March - 1.30 pm (with tea breaks) concluding with Service of Vespers at 6pm in the Church.

Your chance to sing Vespers for the Vigil of the Feast of St Patrick. Led by Alan Tavener and the Canty Trio (Rebecca Tavener (soprano), Anne Lewis (contralto) and Bill Taylor (on medieval Celtic harp) the sequence will combine 15th century Irish plainchant with modern versions of the Psalms in English. Suitable for all voices and levels of ability, the music will be prepared in workshops and the weekend will culminate with everyone joining together in the liturgy. £25 full price, £15 concessions, £10 student.
