Operation Christmas Child

Mrs Anne Bell regional co-ordinator
One north London parish has begun to looks like a scene from Father Christmas' secret headquarters this week. For a second year in a row, St Mary's Catholic Church in East Finchley, has become an assembly point and processing centre for thousands of brightly coloured shoeboxes of Christmas gifts.
Operation Christmas Child encourages schoolchildren and churches to put simple gifts for children in shoeboxes wrapped it with decorative paper. These boxes will be sent to children in poorer parts of the world. By the middle of December it is estimated that the busy ecumenical team at St Mary's will have despatched at least 10,000 boxes to Belarus.
Here Mrs Anne Bell, (pictured) regional co-ordinator, looks at some of the boxes they have received for onward despatch.
