Ireland: Eucharistic Gathering in Enniscorthy to mark Year of Faith

A special three day 'Eucharistic Gathering' will take place in Enniscorthy, Diocese of Ferns, starting tomorrow Friday and running until Sunday evening. The Eucharistic Gathering in Enniscorthy has been arranged to mark the Year of Faith which is being celebrated by the Universal Church throughout 2013.

Welcoming the festival of faith the Bishop of Ferns, Bishop Denis Brennan said: "The Year of Faith is an invitation to all Catholics to celebrate, live and pray our faith in the liturgy and life of the Church. This weekend's programme of events for the Eucharistic Gathering has been arranged to help us appreciate, discuss and even question the Christian faith."

Bishop Brennan continued: "As the host parish for the gathering Saint Aidan's is both the church for the people of Saint Aidan's Parish, Enniscorthy, and also the Cathedral Church for the Diocese of Ferns. I wish to congratulate all involved and I pray that this Eucharistic Gathering may bear abundant fruit at parish and diocesan level."

Mass will be celebrated on each day of the Eucharistic Gathering. On Sunday morning, 2 June - the Feast of Corpus Christi - the Eucharistic Gathering has designated this day as 'Gathering at Home Sunday'. The Feast of Corpus Christi celebrates the gift of the Eucharist from Christ to his Church. This weekend the parishes of Saint Aidan's, and Saint Senan's, invite their members to gather home for this Sunday Eucharist. This invitation is a reminder that all baptised members of our parishes have not been forgotten. They still retain their place at the Eucharistic celebration whether that place is occupied by them or not. This Mass is an invitation to all believers to be reconciled with God and with one another. It is an invitation to come home to our God, to our community and to our true selves.

A wide selection of facilitators and speakers will address the Eucharistic Gathering on their experience of the affirming gift of faith in our lives including: Archbishop Diarmuid Martin, Archbishop of Dublin; Bishop Denis Brennan, Bishop of Ferns; Bishop Brendan Leahy, Bishop of Limerick; Mr Mickey Harte, Tyrone Football Manager; Sister Mary Kenny, Presentation Sister, Northern Province; Mr John Waters; author and journalist; and many others.
