Franciscan Life and Mission in today’s world were two central themes recently discussed and celebrated by the Franciscan Missionaries of the Divine Motherhood (FMDM) at their General Chapter, held at Ladywell, their Motherhouse in Surrey.

The General Chapter takes place at six-yearly intervals and is responsible for discerning the future direction of the Congregation and for electing a new leadership team.

The Sisters at the Chapter elected Sister Jane Bertelsen as their Congregational Leader and Sisters Helen Doyle, Monica Weedon, Shirley Aeria and Helen McEvilly as General Councillors.

For the General Chapter, the Congregation took the theme: “Courage, it is I. Do not be afraid.” (Mk 6:50). Returning to the ten countries in which they minister, the Sisters carry a helpful message of the meaning and relevance of their Franciscan mission in the midst of the constantly changing needs of today’s Church and world.
