DR Congo: church issues fresh appeal for kidnapped priests


Church leaders in DR Congo have a issued a fresh appeal for the release of three priests who were kidnapped last October.

The National Episcopal Conference of Congo (CENCO) and the Diocese of Beni-Butembo, published a statement yesterday calling for the release of the three Assumptionist priests: Fr Jean-Pierre Ndulani, Fr Anselme Wasikundi and Fr Edmond Bamutute.

The statement said: "These priests have done nothing to deserve this. We ask those who hold the to repent and release them to serve God."

The three priests were kidnapped on the evening of 19 October when they were in the parish of Notre-Dame des Pauvres of Mbau, 22 km from Beni and 70 km from the episcopal see of Butembo (eastern DRC). Since then there has been no news about them.
