Shirley Williams and Clifford Longley took part in a discussion on the subject of: 'Does politics still need religion' in the Back to Faith Series at the Queen Elizabeth Conference Centre in Westminster last Wednesday, 21 November. The evening was chaired by Professor Linda Woodhead, with a question and answer session with the audience afterwards

The event took place one day after the Church of England General Synod voted not to proceed with legislation to allow the consecration of women as bishops. The proposal had failed by a small margin to achieve the necessary two-thirds majority from lay members of the synod.
