London: conference marks 50th anniversary of Pacem in terris

Pope John XXIII
Pope John XXIII's great final encyclical Pacem in terris was marked by a bold reading of the signs of the times. Its hopes for peace with justice must now be pursued in the context of greater globalisation. This one-day conference at the Heythrop Institute on Thursday, 14 June from 10am-5pm will explore the conceptual framework needed to negotiate the many issues that arise and how the resources of theology can contribute to the quest for peace.
Contributors will be:
Dr James Sweeney CP (Heythrop Institute: Religion & Society) on 'Establishing Universal Peace in Truth, Justice, Charity and Liberty': The Perspective of 'Pacem in Terris'
Professor Johan Verstraeten (Catholic University of Leuven) on Globalisation, Justice and Catholic Social Thought - Will 'love' be enough?
Dr Gillian Paterson (Heythrop Institute: Religion & Society) on Healthcare and Religion: a Global Perspective
Dr Patrick Riordan SJ (Heythrop Institute: Religion & Society) on: Too Big to Succeed: Can the Common Good be Global?
