The Diocese of Westminster has appointed Patricia Chale as the first director of Caritas Westminster - an organisation established to 'enable the Catholic community in the diocese to identify and respond in charity to all forms of poverty and social exclusion.'

Patricia Chale has had a varied career, spanning over 20 years, as a director and latterly, through her own consultancy, as an international management consultant in the areas of human resources management and organisational development in the private, public and not for profit sectors both in the UK and overseas.

She has also been a visiting lecturer at a number of business schools and has also worked as an advisor to a number of governments on cultural diversity issues, institutional reform and national workforce development initiatives focusing on sustainable employment creation and tackling social exclusion, deprivation and poverty.

Patricia is an active member of her local parish, Sacred Heart, Wimbledon.

The Most Rev Vincent Nichols, Archbishop of Westminster said: "I welcome Patricia Chale to the Diocese of Westminster and look forward to her work in the development of Caritas Westminster.

"The social and pastoral mission of the Church which reaches out to those in need is called Caritas. Christ calls us to put our faith into action by practicing self sacrifice and love for one another. Over the coming months Patricia will work closely with parishes, diocesan agencies and Catholic charities to ensure that Caritas Westminster can help us inspire and enable Catholic social action throughout the diocese."

Patricia Chale said: "I am delighted to have been appointed as the first Director of Caritas Westminster."

"Working with the priests and people of the diocese, I will be seeking to develop Caritas Westminster as a outward looking agency which will take forward the proud diocesan traditions of care and outreach to the most vulnerable in our community. At a time of economic and social uncertainty, Caritas Westminster, rooted in the
practical expression of Christian love, will seek to enable the most vulnerable in our diocese to have lives of dignity and worth."
