Former pop singer Cindy Kent is the latest addition to Clergy on the Catwalk (Wed 9 May, 12pm) at next week's Christian Resources Exhibition.

Rev Cindy first found fame as lead singer of 60s folk group The Settlers who stormed the charts with The Lightning Tree (theme song to the TV series Follyfoot - see link below). But after working with stars such as Cliff Richard, Dusty Springfield and Roy Orbison, she moved successfully into radio, presenting shows on London’s Capital Radio, LBC, BBC national and later Premier Christian Radio. She is now priest-in-charge at St John the Apostle in Whetstone, North London.

As well as wearing new and sumptuous vestments from top church textile designers like Juliet Hemingray and Jacquie Binns, Cindy will sport a 'chasustole' - a combination of chasuble and stole.

"It was made for me by Sister Carol of the Community of the Resurrection of Our Lord in Grahamstown, South Africa," explains Cindy.

"My church has strong links with the community and raises money each year for their Amasango School for Streetchildren. Sister Carol was Mother Superior some years ago and is very artistic. It's reversible - red to white - and beautifully embroidered. I'm pretty sure it's the only one in the UK."

Joining her on the catwalk will be six more 'models', including Rev Marlene Greaves who gained a fashion degree alongside infamous designer John Galliano. Marlene now serves alongside husband Bishop David at the New Testament Assembly church in Leytonstone, East London. She believes 'the best way to forget your troubles is to
wear tight shoes' and is currently developing a range of liturgical dance wear which should be available by the autumn.

Beracah Clothing will launch a creative range of Christian tee-shirts and tops 'expressing love to both creator and created.'

"These colourful collections are prepared to go anywhere and declare the truth to church and world at large," explains Beracah's Chris Millin. "Our versatile clothing can be made to order and tailored to suit the individual."

More than 10,000 people, the majority in some form of leadership in their local church, are expected at CRE International, often dubbed the 'ideal church show' and the largest annual exhibition of Christian resources in Europe.

The event will be opened by Lord David Puttnam (10.45am, Tue 8 May), producer of Chariots of Fire, arguably the most successful sports-themed movie of all time.
