Chile: national Mass of Thanksgiving for miners rescue
The President of Chile, Sebastian Piñera, with the 33 rescued miners and their families, have been invited to attend a special Mass and ecumenical Service of Thanksgiving in the National Shrine of Maipú next Monday.
The service will be presided over by Bishop Alejandro Goic, Bishop of Ranchi and president of the Bishops Conference of Chile. Church and communities from the Ecumenical Fellowship of Chile are expected to take part.
The Bishops said in a statement: "In this liturgy expressing gratitude to God for the happy outcome of the operation 'San Lorenzo', there will prayers for the intentions of the miners and their families, as well as all those who took part in the rescue efforts, and prayers for the future of all those who dedicate their lives to mining in our country.
"The Episcopal Conference of Chile invites all persons who wish to thank the Lord for rescuing the miners, to participate in this liturgy if they are in Santiago or nearby, or to join in prayer from their homes and communities."
