Mass of Thanksgiving for two comedy legends
A Mass of Thanksgiving for the life of comedian and singer Danny La Rue, and comedy writer Vincent Powell. will take place at noon in Corpus Christi Church, Maiden Lane, Covent Garden, on Thursday, 29 April. The service is being organised by the Catholic Association of Performing Arts.
Danny La Rue, whose real name was Daniel Patrick Carroll, died on 31 May last year at the age of 81. He was the most popular female impersonator and comedian on stage and screen from the 1960s onwards.
Vince Powell, who died on 13 July last year at the age of 80 was a prolific creator of sitcoms from the early days of television right through to the early 1990s. His extensive list of comedy credits includes the shows Love Thy Neighbour, Bless This House, Nearest And Dearest and Never The Twain. One of his last films was a documentary on Lourdes made during Cardinal Basil last Westminster pilgrimage.
