Kenya: Star of the Sea headmistress dies

Sr Cecilia Mary Negris, the last missionary headmistress of the Star of the Sea Primary School in Mombasa, died on 30 April. She was 84 years old.

Sr Cecilia, a Missionary Sister of Our Lady of Africa (MSOLA), had undergone a major operation at Nairobi Hospital just before her death. She passed away peacefully on the Feast of Our Lady of

The former Headmistress of Star of the Sea Primary School, Mombasa. she spent most of her life as a missionary in Mombasa.

She will be well remembered by both Star of the Sea Primary and High schools former pupils and students for her strictness and the guardian of the school's history.

Her funeral was at St Austin Church, on Tuesday 6 May 5th. The main celebrant was Fr Rinny Missionary of Africa, who used to visit her regularly.

Here in Mombasa we shall have a Mass for her on 23rd May, 2009, at 5.30 pm, celebrated by Archbishop Boniface Lele at the Holy Ghost Cathedral. All are welcome.
