World cycling champion to head charity ride
Double world cycling medalist, Tony Doyle, MBE, is gearing up for a 50 mile spin round the Norfolk countryside on Sunday, 2 September to raise funds for peace education. Starting and finishing at the shrine of Our Lady of Walsingham, Tony, who is a Catholic, will be joined by around a hundred other cyclists including doctors, nurses, a couple of octagenarians and the odd tandem and monocyclist. Those less adventurous will be taking a 25 mile route. A group of walkers will also be joining in the fun. And - for people who prefer to stay in one place - there will be a Family Fun Day in Walsingham, with stalls, activities and refreshments all day. All money raised is going towards the Peace Promise Project, run by Pax Christi, which works with children and young people in schools, parishes and youth groups to promote peace studies including mediation work, anti-bullying workshops and non-violence. If you would like to get involved - either as a cyclist, a walker, a sponsor or a steward - contact Bethan Hillas at Pax Christi on: 020 8203 4884 or e-mail her at: paxchristi@gn.apc.org
