Pope Benedict XVI has appointed the Most Reverend Bernard Longley, Archbishop of Birmingham, as a Synod Father for the forthcoming Thirteenth Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops, to be held in Rome, 7 - 28 October 2012.

The list of Synod Fathers who received a personal invitation from the Holy Father to participate in the Synod on the theme: "The New Evangelisation for the Transmission of the Christian Faith”, was made public by the Holy See Press Office yesterday.

Archbishop Bernard Longley said: “I am grateful to be appointed a member of the forthcoming Synod on New Evangelisation. I hope it will be an opportunity to re-emphasise the essential link between dialogue and proclamation that underpins the Church’s mission.”

The Archbishop of Birmingham added: “I believe it be a powerful expression of the Church’s priorities for living and sharing faith in Christ amidst the complexities of the contemporary world.”
