Fr Laurence Freeman OSB will be giving this year's first Silence in the City talk in Westminster Hall on Saturday 19 February 2011 from 10am to 4pm. His theme will be:  'The Great Chasm: Spirituality in a Time of Austerity'.

Fr Laurence is a Benedictine monk, the director of the World Community for Christian Meditation and successor to Fr John Main. He travels the world teaching meditation in the Christian tradition, is involved in inter-religious dialogue and peace and reconciliation work. He was awarded the Order of Canada for his work in these fields.

Fr Laurence has recently started a new initiative called Meditatio. This is the outreach and sharing of the fruits of meditation with the wider world and with the problems and crises of our times. The three-year programme includes a series of seminars and workshops on the themes of Education, Business and Finance, Mental Health, the Environment, Inter-Religious Dialogue and Citizenship. Fr. Laurence has written several books including, "Jesus: the Teacher Within", "Web of Silence" and "The Selfless Self." He is also a regular contributor to the Tablet.

The day will be held at Westminster Cathedral Hall and doors will be open from 9.30am when refreshments will be available. Drinks will be available during the day but you might like to bring a packed lunch or go to one of the many food outlets in the area at lunchtime. We suggest a donation of £20 for the day.
