West Country dioceses to gather for conference

Exploring and discovering what it means to respond to Jesus' invitation to "follow me" is the focus for the innovative 'Loud & Clear' conference at Exeter University from 16 to 19 July. Jointly organised by the Catholic Dioceses of Clifton, Plymouth and Portsmouth, the event builds upon the success of the first 'Loud & Clear' conference held in 2004. 'Living God's Word' is the theme for this conference that will enthuse, challenge and renew the many dedicated people who serve the Catholic Church throughout the south and west. The bishops of the three dioceses will join delegates participating in a diverse range of workshops, discussions, liturgies and speeches all led by some of today's most talented pastoral workers and thinkers. Nicky Stevens, Head of the Department for Pastoral Formation for the Portsmouth Diocese said: "'Loud & Clear' is a wonderful opportunity for our dedicated parishioners to explore new ways of living our faith. Speakers will help us respond to the challenges of faith as we strive to live God's word in contemporary society." Keynote speakers at 'Loud & Clear' include American-based Bill Huebsch well-known for publishing 'Vatican II in Plain English'. Internationally known author, lecturer, and retreat leader Megan McKenna will deliver an address intriguingly entitled 'A Story Within a Story Within a Story!' Father Daniel O'Leary, a priest of the Leeds Diocese and regular contributor to international Catholic weekly 'The Tablet' will speak on 'I am Mary, I am Martha: Faces of the Soul'. Completing the top line-up is Father Nicholas King, a Bath-born Jesuit priest and a respected scripture scholar who has recently published a groundbreaking translation of the New Testament.
