Women's World Day of Prayer
Today is Women's World Day of Prayer. Christian women from many different traditions will be gathering together for thousands of prayer events around the world. The theme this year: 'Challenged to Reconcile' has been prepared by the women of Romania. For more information click here to go the World Day of Prayer Website. In London, Baroness Cox of Queensbury, Deputy Speaker of the House of Lords will be speaking at a service at 7.30 in the Sacred Heart church, Quex Road, NW6. The president of Christian Solidarity Worldwide UK, she has worked in education and health care and is heavily involved with international humanitarian and human rights work. 'The Battling Baroness', as she is affectionately known, has deliberately chosen causes overlooked by the world at large and put her life at risk on many occasions in places as varied as Sudan, Burma, Nagorno Karabakh and Russia. Whether buying freedom of slaves in Sudan or inspiring the establishment of Russia's first humane professional service for the care of orphans, she always seeks to 'speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves'.
