Archbishop Romero

Archbishop Oscar Romero will be beatified in El Salvador's capital city San Salvador on 23 May. Archbishop Vincenzo Paglia, chief promoter of Archbishop Romero's Cause for sainthood made the announcement at a press conference in the presidential palace in San Salvador yesterday. Tuesday 24 March will be the 35th anniversary of Archbishop Romero's assassination.

Many commemorative events and services are planned around the UK. In London, Cardinal Vincent Nichols will preach at the national ecumenical service on Saturday, 21 March, in St Martin-in-the-Fields Church, Trafalgar Square. This year's Service has the theme 'Romero's Martyrdom - A faith that does justice'. Cardinal Nichols is one of the Patrons of the Archbishop Romero Trust, who are organising the Service in conjunction with St Martin-in-the-Fields.

The Service begins at 11am and all are welcome.
