First non-white joins Swiss Guards

A 21-year-old Indian-born man has become the first non-white Swiss Guard in the militia's 500-year history. The new recruit, Dhani Bachmann, was adopted by a family from Lucerne when he was five years old. He now wears the blue and orange Renaissance-style uniforms worn by the world's smallest army. Founded in 1506 by Pope Julius II, The Swiss Guard stand by entrances to the Vatican, parade at papal ceremonies, and have to be in barracks by midnight. Members of the 100-strong Guard must be single Roman Catholic Swiss nationals, aged between 18 and 25. source: cinjub
