A Catholic priest was first victim of September 11
A Catholic priest has been officially counted as 'victim number one' of September 11 terrorist attack on the World Trade Centre. The Franciscan chaplain to the New York Fire Department, Father Mychal Judge, rushed to the Twin Towers with firefighters as soon as the alarm was raised. He went into the building, and prayed with the dying and injured until he himself was killed by falling debris. The day before he died, Fr Mychal had said Mass in a New York fire station. During the service he told the firefighters then the job was unpredictable and dangerous. "You have no idea when you get out on that rig, no matter how big the job or how small, you have no idea what God is calling you to," he said. Search on ICN for past stories on Fr Mychal.
