Documentary on women's peace movement at London festival
First-time film maker Donna Baillie spoke on BBC Radio Four's Woman's Hour programme yesterday, about her documentary on the Women in Black peace organisation. Now a worldwide movement of over 150 groups, including many Christians and Moslems, the all-women network started with vigils in 1988 in Israel against the Occupation of the West Bank and Gaza. Donna Baillie's film follows the London group, largely made up of middle-aged women who the press have affectionately dubbed 'Hell's Grannies', to the West Bank where they helped form a human shield around Palestinian civilians. Baillie's film is being shown as part of the Human Rights Watch International Film Festival, which opens today and runs to 20 March.
