Zimbabwean church leaders seek support in Malawi

Zimbabwean church leaders visited Malawian president Bakili Muluzi last week as part of their efforts to bring the opposition Movement for Democratic Change and ruling ZANU PF back to the negotiating table. The delegation which comprised Bishop Patrick Mutume from the Catholic diocese of Mutare, Bishop Sebastian Bakare of the Anglican church and Trevor Manhanga of the Evangelical Fellowship church of Zimbabwe, are said to have briefed president Muluzi on the political impasse and hardships in Zimbabwe. Since early this year the three man team has brokered failed talks between Mugabe and MDC. They have also initiated meetings with presidents Obasanjo of Nigeria, Thabo Mbeki of South Africa and Muluzi.
