Rome: 106 year-old nun pledges support for Barack Obama
A 106-year-old American nun, who last voted in 1952, for President Eisenhower, has decided to participate in the elections this year, and pledged her support for Barack Obama.
Sister Cecilia Gaudette, who has lived in a convent in Rome since 1958, has just registered to vote. She keeps up to date with the news by reading newspapers and watching television.
She said: "I'm encouraged by Senator Obama. I've never met him, but he seems to be a good man with a good private life. That's the first thing. Then he must be able to govern."
Sr Cecilia said she hopes that if Obama becomes president he will help to bring bring peace in the world.
It is likely that she will the oldest person voting in the 4 November election.
