Holland: Christian naturists abandon plan for naked service

Christian naturists in Holland have given up plans for a open air naked service after protests from church groups.

The Gan Eden (Garden of Eden) nudist group held one service in a private park in Zeewolde this summer. It was presided over by a clothed clergyman and attended by more than 80 people. The group say they model their belief sand services on the story of Adam and Eve in the Old Testament.

They were planning a second service this week, but the media coverage provoked such an angry response they have decided to cancel it. A message on their website said it has received so many rude messages it has been temporarily shut down.

"I don't understand what all the fuss is about," a spokeswoman for Gan Eden said. "We are just a group of Christians and we want to hold a church service."
