Methodist minister leads prayers outside Burmese Embassy
The Rev Ian Hamilton, minister from the Hammersmith and Fulham Methodist Circuit, today led prayers for Burmese pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi, who was arrested by Myanmar State Peace and Development Council on 30 May. Joining a demonstration of more than 200 people outside the Embassy of the Myanmar Republic, Charles Street, London, between 12:30 and 14:00, Mr Hamilton read out the following prayer: "Lord of life, we pray for the peace and democracy of Burma. We pray for the Karen people and all the people of Myanmar, That human rights and the democratic hopes of all the people may be respected. We pray for Aung San Suu Kyi and all political prisoners, In the name of Christ. Amen." Mr Hamilton was joined by Buddhist monk, U Ultara, who led a Buddhist chant for the health, peace and well-being of Aung San Suu Kyi. The pair voiced their full support for the demonstration, which was calling for the immediate and unconditional release of the pro-democracy leader and all political prisoners in Burma.
