The Sharia Court in Nigeria has rejected an application to sentence two people to death for allegedly converting to Christianity. Islamic fundamentalists in the Zamfara Station in northern Nigeria were said to be so disturbed at losing two of their number of Christianity that they applied for the death sentence to be passed. Sharia Judge Awal Jabaka rejected the application on the grounds that there was no law banning religious conversion but he is reported to have recommended that an application be made to the State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice to have the law amended. The two who so narrowly escaped with their lives, Lawali Yakubu and Ja,afaru Ali Mohammed have said that they were always followers of Jesus Christ and denied deserting Islam.
