Ninety young people who travelled to Canada for World Youth Day last month have failed to return to their homes. The youths from Uganda were expected to return to their home country as a group on 2 August. When they did not turn up Fr Obunga, Secretary of the Catholic Leadership Training Centre demanded an official report on the matter. The priest is still awaiting the outcome of that request but meanwhile verbal reports seem to suggest that many of the young people did not attend the celebration in Toronto and that they have since extended their visas. About 300 youths were denied visas to go to the international event in the first place, after failing initial interviews. Some of those who tried to join the Ugandan contingent, reportedly, falsely claimed to be Catholic.
