Westminster's AYWL experience features in new book

Westminster's At Your Word Lord programme features in a new book: Small Christian Communities Today - Capturing the New Moment by Joseph Healey and Jeanne Hinton.

The book is a compilation of stories, insights, and practical strategies from small communities around the world that have used the RENEW International programme.

In Westminster, RENEW International provided the content, process and training for the three-year long At Your Word, Lord programme, which is now in its final season in parishes throughout the archdiocese. Although the programme will be ending soon, many of the small groups plan to continue to meet to reflect, pray and act on the Gospel message. Elsewhere the programme has had a similar positive effect. Irma Chavez, director of RENEW International's El Salvador office, writes about international twinning, describing the joys of small communities who share faith with each other across borders. Another chapter describes how RENEW International has worked side by side with the Diocese of San Bernardino to form and sustain SCCs in a multi-cultural context.

The book says: 'The Church finds herself in a new moment. It is a prophetic moment, challenging the Christian churches to new ways of being and living church and new ways of ministry and service. Small Christian Communities can be on the cutting edge and challenge the status quo. It is a mission moment. Mission and outreach are essential dimension of SCCs. Part of this is sharing the story with others. A Ugandan proverb says: "One who sees something good must narrate it".'
