Kenya hosts Taizé youth conference
More than 6,000 young Christians of all denominations from Africa, Europe and Asia gathered in Nairobi last week (November 26-30) for a five day international youth conference, organized by the Taizé Community, under the theme: Sharing Hope.
Named the 'Pilgrimage of Trust on Earth' participants spent the mornings in host parishes within and around archdiocese of Nairobi, taking part in prayers and worship, workshops and shared meals together at the Queen of Apostles Junior Seminary, Ruaraka, about 15 kilometres from Nairobi.
At mid day and evening prayers, the young people were joined by church leaders. Both Cardinal John Njue of the Catholic Archdiocese of Nairobi and Apostolic Nuncio to Kenya, Archbishop Alain Paul Lebeaupin took part.
This was the second time the Taizé Community has organized an international meeting in Africa. The first was held in Johannesburg, South Africa in 1995.
