Cardinal Kasper to meet Orthodox leaders in Moscow
Cardinal Walter Kasper, president of the Pontifical Council for the Promotion of Christian Unity, has begun his visit to Russia at the invitation of the Metropolitan of Smolensk and Kaliningrad, Kyrill, who is also the president of external relations for the Moscow Patriarchate. During his week-long visit, Cardinal Kasper will meet the Patriarch of Moscow and all Russias, Alexey II, to whom he will deliver a message and gift from the Pope. Monsignor Paolo Pezzi, Catholic Archbishop of Moscow, said: "the trip is a sign of charity and benevolence from the Pope" and "it is placed in continuity with the effort that is being made for the deepening of dialogue and relations between the two Churches".
