Lenten silence to raise money and change lives
Lent starts next Wednesday. If you're looking for a way to mark Lent this year personally, or with the young people with whom you work, it's not too late to get involved with silent, organised by Million Minutes. You can take part at any time before Easter Sunday.
"There is so much noise in the world! May we learn to be silent in our hearts and before God." Pope Francis
Challenge yourself and your community to cut out some of the noise in your life this Lent. Getting sponsored this Lent will help us to give a voice to young people for whom silence isn't a choice; those overlooked by society and who are cast out of decision making. So get sponsored to stay silent at some point during Lent and help do something amazing for young people. It could be one or two young people who you encourage to stay silent, alongside a teacher or youth leader to raise awareness, and cash, for others. Or it may be a whole class or group. It could be just you.
There are lots of resources to help support you, with presentations and assemblies, lesson plans and sponsorship forms all available online. And however many people are taking part, it's an opportunity for your whole community to embrace some silence this Lent.
* The Celebrating Young People Awards will take place on 19 July 2016. Nominate a young person or group doing something amazing, by 20 May.
