London: Benefit night for Housing Justice

Homeless Sunday is on 24 January and churches around the country will hold special services and other events, praying for individuals affected by homelessness, challenging the conditions that create it and celebrating work that tackles the problem.

In London, a special Housing Justice event and fundraiser for Homeless Sunday, supporting the work of churches and community groups taking action on homelessness nationally takes place on Friday, 22 January from 7.30-11pm.

There will be music and poetry from Andy Flannagan, John McClean and the Clan, Razz Poet, Alice O'Brien and Ben Holland. Welcome from Rt Rev James Langstaff, Bishop of Rochester and Chair of Housing Justice. Housing Justice CEO Alison Gelder will introduce and launch the new Homeless Sunday song and video 'On the Road Together' Homemade food and a bar.

Andy Flannagan is a London-based, Irish singer-songwriter who was previously a hospital doctor but whose proudest moment as an Irishman was captaining England's Barmy Army during the Ashes in Australia. His campaigning song writing dragged him into the political arena, so he can often be found annoying MPs around Parliament, sometimes as Director of Christians on the Left.

John McClean and the Clan are a five-piece Rhythm and Blues and Gospel Roots band. John is originally from New Zealand and his original songs and powerful vocals never fail to stir audiences wherever the band plays. John's wife Jennie shares vocals, son Ben is on Drums, Liberty plays Bass and Alastair Murray of Housing Justice is on lead guitar

Razz Poet is a legend of the performance poetry world, especially with Survivors Poetry for whom he hosts regular monthly events and workshops at the Poetry Café in Covent Garden and Tottenham Chances. He was host of the World Oyster Club at Bunjies for many years. His original songs and poetry are funny, wry and inimitable.

Alice O'Brien is a talented young singer songwriter based in Newcastle who performs her own original songs and covers. She is coming to London specially for this gig and hopes to make lots of new friends and fans!

Ben Holland has just come back from supporting Joan Armatrading on her tour of the UK and Europe, and is rapidly building his own dedicated following. He has just released his first album "In Use Day and Night", with songs of struggle, both personal and political

Tickets are just £10! There will also be a voluntary collection to support the work of Housing Justice with churches nationally.
