Film: Jerusalem music school for Arab and Jewish children turns 20
A music school for Palestinian and Jewish children, started by the Franciscans in Jerusalem 20 years ago, celebrates its 20th birthday this year. Some of the students have gone on to have professional careers in music. Many friendships have formed. The school is helping to unite the divided communities through the common language of music. Music encourages dialogue and also creates job opportunities.
Brother David Grenier, Director of the Magnifcat Institute of Jerusalem, said: "The Magnificat school was founded in June 1995. At that time there were few students, approximately 25. And then it grew, and today we have about 200 students; we went from two instruments to 10 and this year we launched a university degree. We have many projects..."
